Rimini SuperPro Tries Some New Formats

In the tradition of Superhein and Turboshred, Clay Collerá and Lui Tasini tried out some new competition ideas at the Rimini Wellness festival. Originally scheduled as a demo, Clay and Lui decided to make it into a tournament as well, showcasing three different formats of play: pairs, alone (a match play even) and shred.

Pairs used a cumulative score format over two rounds. The best average score across two performances won. Shred was played in traditional pools, with players doing their best combinations and being scored from 1-10. The top scores advanced to the finals. The others played again in a consolation final.

The most experimental was Alone. In this event, players paired off against one another and did individual combos. After each person had done one combo, the judges decided whose was more difficult. The first player to get three wins from the judges advanced.

I like the Alone concept. It’s interactive between the players – you can try to one-up each other. And it has a lot of potential to keep the audience involved through the drama of very simple scoring and a best 3 of 5 structure that most people are familiar with from sports like tennis.

This sound like a really fun experiment that was very manageable with the five amazing players who participated. Overall results are below. Detailed results in the extended article:

Overall Results

1. Tom Leitner (Shred: 6; Open: 3; Alone: 6) 15 points
2T. Clay Collerá (Shred: 4; Open: 2; Alone: 4) 10 points
2T. Reto Zimmerman (Shred: 5; Open: 3; Alone: 2) 10 points
2T. Fabio Sanna (Shred: 3; Open: 2; Alone: 5) 10 points
5. Matteo Gaddoni (Shred: 2; Open: 1; Alone: 3) 6 points
6. Luca Medri (Shred: 1; Open: 1; Alone: 1) 3 points
